Leonid Ovanesbekov was born in Moscow in 1960. He graduated the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), Applied Mathematics department in 1983.

Since 1983 up to 1985 he worked in the "Dzerzhinets" plant. Since 1986 up to 1989 he worked in the Institute of Precision Mechanics and Computer Technology (IPMCT). Since 1989 up to now he is engaged in the Institute for the High-Performance Computer Systems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (before July 1994 - Scientific Computer Center) as senior researcher.

He received Candidate degree of physics-mathematics sciences at the Moscow Aviation Institute in 1994 on theme "Technology of Hypertext Development".

At the time of education in the MAI, 1978-1981 he takes part in the development of the System for Automation Scientific and Technical Calculation "SANTRA" under heading of Prof. Sergey S. Gaisarjan and Valentin E. Zaitsev.

At the 1981-1983, when he worked as student in the "Computing Mathematics and Programming" division of "Applied Mathematics" department, he taker part in the development of the C language compiler for specialized processor under heading Prof. Sergey S. Gaisarjan and Lev N. Chernyshev.

At the 1983-1985, when he worked as engineer in the "Dzerzhinets" plant, he developed the project of intellectual debugger for C language under heading of Sergey S. Gaisarjan (the project was unfinished).

At the 1984-1986, in the "Dzerzhinets" plant, he developed the specialized Data-based system for documentation on the software for specialized processor. He used the relational DBMS "Lisp-R", developed by Olga V. Voskresenskaja under heading Vyatcheslav E. Volfengagen.

At he 1986-1989, in the IPMCT he developed multiparadigm programming system "Int" for Elbrus-2 supercomputer. It was projected original programming language InteSmalltalk based object-oriented language Smalltalk-80 as prototype with production-oriented paradigm (with blackboard system as prototype), frame-oriented paradigm, access-oriented paradigm and object-oriented database paradigm. The project was unfinished (the occurrence of computers of a new generation - personal computers like IBM PC has made the given project non actual).

In 1989-1991 year, in Scientific Computer Center he has developed an original system "HyRe" of hypertext construction.

With 1991 till the present time some attempts to embody in a kind of a information system of idea G. Lakoff and M. Johnson about metaphors as one of main ways of thinking was done. On the basis of this direction Leonid Ovanesbekov at present develops the project "The Catalogue Metaphoric Schemes" - knowledge base of a general knowledge on the WWW-hypertext as framework.

At present Leonid Ovanesbekov is engaged:
- Theoretical researches in the field of a computer science, cybernetics, representation of knowledge, cognitive sciences;
- Researches in the field of technology and ways of representation of various kinds of the information in a hypertext framework;
- Creation and supporting WWW-server for IHPCS;
- Supporting by a automated financial system "AcademBuh".

During education in the MAI, in 1977-1983, scientific interests included:
- Programming languages ( Fortran, Pascal, PL/1, Refal, Ada, Modula-2, Concurrent Pascal, C language);
- Data types in the programming languages, abstract data types;
- Operating systems ( OS 360 MVT, Unix );
- parallel programming;
- Compilers from the programming languages;
- theoretical aspects of programming (E. Dijkstra, D,Gris, N.Virt);
- Work with the textual documents on a computer;
- Basis the mathematicians, theory of sets, general algebra, logic, topology;
- Research of a phenomenon " categories and concepts " in human thinking;
- Research of a phenomenon of the lists, lists and marginal elements in the lists;
- Construction of own general model of semantics;
- Research of a phenomenon of skills and development of the person;
- Attempt to develop metaskills - skills, managing by other skills;
- Research of a texts as tools for the specialized forms of thinking;
- Basis of a computer science and cybernetics.

In a operating time on "Dzerzhinetc" plant in 1983-1986, scientific interests included:
