Results of the Project:

Here are several species of butterflies which are often seen around the camp.
Polygonia c-album L.

Nymphalis urticae L.

These butterflies are seen less frequently in the Yaroslavl region:
Polygonia vau-album Schiff

Nymphalis polychloros L.

The following three butterflies are from the Fritillaries group from the Nymphalidae family. At first glance they seem very similar, but if you look at them carefully, you will see differences in the design of their wings.

Be sure to look at the wings.

Arginnis latonia L.

Arginnis paphia L.

Arginnis laodice

These butterflies were sent to us from the
Shimizu International Junior High School

Here we will present butterflies which we received pictures of from our friends in Japan. These butterflies live near their school. Here is Papilio xuthus L., fem.Papilionidae. In Japan this butterfly is called "Ageha." This butterfly also can be found in the Russian Far East, where it is a protected species. Photo by T.Iyanagi-sensei.

These two pictures show the Machaon Swallowtail (Papilio machaon L.). In Japan these butterflies are called "Ki-Ageho." These butterflies are also found in Europe and in Alaska. They also can be seen around our camp in Russia.
